Verdict at a Glance

XM is a beginner-friendly broker that excels at making forex trading accessible. With a $5 minimum deposit, $30 no-deposit bonus, extensive educational resources, and 1,000+ instruments across MT4 and MT5, it is the best choice for new traders taking their first steps. The bonus program (welcome bonus, loyalty program, trading competitions) is one of the most generous in the industry. It is less suited to advanced ECN traders — spreads on the Standard account start at 0.6 pips with no raw spread option, and the lack of cTrader or TradingView limits platform choice. For beginners and bonus-seeking traders, XM is hard to beat.

Our Rating

83 / 100
Trading Experience82/100

Variable spreads from 0.6 pips are competitive but not as tight as true ECN brokers like IC Markets or FP Markets.

No requotes and no hidden fees, but the market-maker model means wider spreads during volatility.

Platforms80/100

MT4 and MT5 are both supported with full EA and mobile capabilities.

No cTrader or TradingView support — a significant gap for traders who prefer alternative platforms.

Markets83/100

1,000+ instruments across forex, metals, energies, indices, stocks, and crypto — solid coverage.

Stock CFD selection is limited compared to FP Markets (10,000+) or IC Markets (2,100+).

Trust86/100

Triple regulation: CySEC (Licence 120/10), ASIC (Licence 443670), and IFSC (Licence 000382/207).

However, the IFSC Belize entity is tier-3 with lighter requirements. Segregated funds and negative balance protection are provided under CySEC and ASIC entities.

Costs78/100

No commission on any account, which is attractive. But spreads from 0.6 pips are wider than ECN alternatives.

$5 minimum deposit and $30 no-deposit bonus make it extremely accessible for beginners.

Support90/100

24/5 support in 30+ languages — one of the most multilingual support teams in the industry.

Response times are fast (under 3 minutes on live chat) and support quality is consistently high.

Client Fund Protection

Client funds are held in segregated accounts at top-tier European banks, separate from XM's operating capital. Under CySEC regulation, client funds are protected by the Investor Compensation Fund (ICF) up to €20,000 per client in the event of broker insolvency. Under ASIC regulation, similar protections apply. The IFSC Belize entity has lighter fund protection requirements. The broker uses SSL encryption for all data transfers and offers two-factor authentication for account login. Regular external audits verify compliance with fund segregation requirements.

Negative Balance Protection

Yes — XM provides negative balance protection for all retail clients under CySEC and ASIC entities, as required by EU and Australian regulations. You can never lose more than your total deposit. Under the IFSC Belize entity, negative balance protection may not be guaranteed to the same standard — always check which entity you are registered under.

Bonuses & Promotions

XM offers one of the most generous bonus programs in the industry, which is a major differentiator. The $30 no-deposit bonus allows new traders to try real-money trading without risking their own funds — no deposit required, and profits can be withdrawn after meeting a minimal volume requirement. The 50% welcome bonus (up to $500) matches your first deposit and can be used as margin. The 20% loyalty bonus is available for subsequent deposits. XM also runs regular trading competitions with cash prizes on both demo and real accounts. Bonus terms and conditions apply, including minimum trading volume requirements before bonus funds can be withdrawn. Bonuses are not available to EU/UK clients due to FCA and CySEC regulations that restrict promotional offers.

Trading Conditions

XM operates a no-commission model across all account types — all trading costs are built into the spread. The Micro and Standard accounts offer variable spreads from 0.6 pips on EUR/USD. The XM Ultra Low account offers slightly tighter spreads for a higher minimum deposit ($50). Maximum leverage is 1:1000, one of the highest among CySEC-regulated brokers (note: EU clients are capped at 1:30 for major forex pairs under CySEC regulations). Scalping, hedging, and Expert Advisors are all fully supported with no restrictions. XM uses a market-maker execution model — orders are processed internally rather than routed to external liquidity providers. This means there are no requotes, but spreads may be wider than true ECN brokers, especially during news events. Execution is generally fast (under 1 second) and reliable.

Overnight Swap (Rollover) Fees

Overnight swap (rollover) fees apply on all accounts except Islamic (swap-free) accounts. Swap rates vary by instrument and are published daily on the XM website. Triple swap is charged on Wednesdays for forex pairs to account for weekend rollover. Islamic accounts are available on Micro, Standard, and XM Ultra Low accounts and charge no overnight swap, complying with Sharia finance principles.

Deposits & Withdrawals

XM supports Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, UnionPay, bank wire, and cryptocurrency for deposits. Most deposit methods are instant with no deposit fees from XM. The minimum deposit is $5 — one of the lowest in the industry. There is no maximum deposit limit.

Withdrawals are processed within 24 hours on business days. XM is known for fast withdrawal processing — most e-wallet withdrawals are completed within hours. Card withdrawals take 2-5 business days. Bank wires take 2-5 business days depending on your location. All withdrawals must go to accounts in your name for anti-money-laundering compliance. XM does not charge withdrawal fees, though your payment provider may apply their own charges. The broker promises same-day withdrawal processing for requests submitted before 5:00 PM (Cyprus time) on business days.

KYC (Know Your Customer) Requirements

KYC verification is required before your first withdrawal. You must submit a government-issued photo ID (passport, driver's licence, or national ID) and a proof of address (utility bill or bank statement dated within the last 6 months). XM uses an automated document verification system that can approve many submissions within hours. Verification is typically completed within 24 hours. The process is straightforward and well-documented on the XM website with clear instructions.

Final Verdict

XM is the best broker for beginners and bonus-seeking traders. The $5 minimum deposit, $30 no-deposit bonus, extensive educational resources in 30+ languages, and 24/5 multilingual support make it the most accessible broker in the industry. However, the lack of a true ECN account, wider spreads (from 0.6 pips vs 0.0 pips at ECN brokers), and limited platform choice (no cTrader or TradingView) mean it is not the best option for advanced traders who need the tightest spreads and fastest execution. For beginners taking their first steps in forex trading, XM is hard to beat. Our overall score of 83/100 reflects its excellence as a beginner-focused broker with some limitations for advanced traders.

Great education and support but wider spreads

I have been with XM for 2 years. The education resources are the best in the industry — I learned everything I know from their webinars and courses. Support is available in my native language which is rare. The downside is that Standard account spreads start from 1.0 pip on EUR/USD which is wider than ECN brokers. If you trade high volume, look at the XM Ultra Low account or switch to an ECN broker.

Best broker for complete beginners

XM is the broker I recommend to all my friends who want to start trading. The $5 minimum deposit means anyone can start. The $30 no-deposit bonus lets you try real trading without risking your own money. The education portal has everything from basic forex concepts to advanced technical analysis. Live webinars in 30+ languages are held daily. The mobile app is user-friendly. Cannot fault XM for beginners.

Good for beginners but not for serious traders

XM was my first broker and it served me well as a beginner. But after 2 years of trading and growing my account, the limitations became apparent. The spreads on the Standard account (0.6+ pips) are not competitive for high-volume trading. There is no ECN or Raw spread option. Only MT4 and MT5 — no cTrader or TradingView. I have since moved to IC Markets for ECN pricing.

Best multilingual support in the industry

I am from Brazil and English is not my first language. XM offers support in Portuguese which made my experience so much better. Every question I had was answered clearly in my native language. The 30+ language support is not just marketing — they actually have native speakers. My account manager has been incredibly helpful.

Great for learning with small amounts

As a university student with limited funds, XM was the perfect choice. The $5 minimum deposit meant I could start trading with my pocket money. The educational resources are excellent — I attended three live webinars in my first month and learned more than from any paid course. The Micro account lets me trade with very small positions.

The $30 no-deposit bonus is genuine

I was sceptical about the XM $30 no-deposit bonus but it is completely legitimate. I received the bonus within minutes of verifying my account, traded with it for two weeks, made $47 in profit, and was able to withdraw it after meeting the volume requirement. I then deposited $50 and got the 50% welcome bonus. XM is the only broker I know that offers such generous bonuses.

Good for beginners, not for advanced traders

XM is a decent broker but the spreads on the Standard account are not competitive for serious traders. I switched to the Ultra Low account which is better but still wider than dedicated ECN brokers. The bonus programs are generous if that matters to you. Platform is MT4 and MT5 only — no cTrader or TradingView. For beginners or casual traders, XM is excellent. For advanced traders, there are better options.

Perfect for beginners with bonuses

XM is perfect for someone just starting out. The $5 minimum deposit and $30 no-deposit bonus let me start trading without risking my own money. The Micro account with cent lots is great for learning. The educational resources and daily webinars are very helpful. Customer support in my language is available 24/5. Withdrawals have always been processed within 24 hours. Highly recommend for new traders.
